Winner of the Bryn Terfel Urdd Scholarship award 2014

AND A HIGHLY TALENTED WELSH FOLK AND CLOG DANCER

The 2014 Bryn Terfel Urdd Scholarship was held on Sunday 12 October in Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

The Urdd Gobaith Cymru Bryn Terfel Scholarship is worth £4,000 to the most promising individual performer from the Urdd Eisteddfod’s under 25 solo competitions.

Six performers were chosen and invited to compete for the Scholarship during a special evening following the Eisteddfod. The competitors were asked to prepare a 12 minutes programme to perform in front of distinguished guest judges who decided the eventual winner of the Scholarship. The main aim of the Scholarship is to nurture the talents of Wales’s best up and coming talent and give them the opportunity to develop within their field.

The six competitors were

  3. Enlli Parri, Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr
  4. Gwyn Owen, Aelwyd Llundain
  5. Anne Denholm, Aelod Unigol Cylch Caerfyrddin
  6. Aaron Pryce Lewis, Aelod Unigol Cylch Dewi, Penfro

Enlli Parri

Enlli 218, from Cardiff, was winner of solo folk dance 14-25. Born in Cardiff, Enlli attended Ysgol Gyfun Plasmawr but is now a student at the Guildhall in London. Enlli started clog dancing when she was in primary school under the guidance of Cerian Phillips. Enlli is also an accomplished flute player and is a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and Cardiff Youth Orchestra. She has reached the final twice in the Gregynog Young Musician competition and competed for the Blue Riband at the National Eisteddfod in Llanelli this year.
